Flag of Switzerland
The flag of Switzerland is square: a red field with a white cross in the center. The cross does not touch the edges, and its four arms are equal, each one-sixth longer than it is wide. Apart from the flag of Vatican City, it is the only square national flag, although Swiss ships at sea use a rectangular version.

Meaning of the flag of Switzerland
The white cross on red goes back to the banner of the canton of Schwyz, which gave the country its name, and to the white cross worn by Swiss soldiers in the Middle Ages. It became the flag of the modern federal state in the 19th century. The emblem of the Red Cross, a red cross on white, was created by reversing the Swiss colors in honor of Switzerland.
