Meaning of the flag of Thailand
The colors are explained through the national motto of nation, religion and king: red stands for the nation and its people, white for religion, and blue for the monarchy. King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) introduced the design in 1917, replacing an earlier flag with a white elephant on red. Blue was also seen as a sign of solidarity with the Allies of World War I, whom Siam joined that year.
