How to read this map

The Nelson River is about 644 km (400 mi) long and drains a basin of about 1,090,000 km² (422,000 sq mi). Its average discharge is about 2,800 m³/s (98,900 cu ft/s). It rises at Lake Winnipeg and flows into the Hudson Bay. Tributaries include Burntwood River, Echimamish River, Boots Creek, Leslie Creek, Limestone River, Weir River, Grass River and Angling River.

The highlighted blue line is the course of the Nelson River as mapped by Natural Earth. Towns and cities on the map include Winnipeg. Labeled countries: Manitoba and Ontario.

Greens show lower elevations; tan and brown show higher land, with pale tones toward the highest terrain. Shadows emphasize the slopes, and vertical relief is exaggerated so landforms are easier to read. Dashed lines show country borders, and fine dashed lines show state or province borders.

The relief uses Terrain Tiles (SRTM, GMTED2010 and ETOPO1 elevation data). Rivers, lakes, borders and the course of the Nelson River come from Natural Earth, and the figures on this page from Wikidata. Natural Earth draws features at a small scale, so the line is a guide to where the Nelson River is, not a surveyed boundary.
