Meaning of the flag of Bermuda
The ship is the Sea Venture, which was wrecked on Bermuda's reefs in 1609 while carrying settlers to Virginia; its survivors began the English settlement of the islands. The Union Jack shows Bermuda's status as a British Overseas Territory. Bermuda is unusual among British territories in using a red rather than a blue ensign as its flag on land.
