How to read this map

Wikidata lists a population of about 160,000,000. The highest point is Semeru, 3,676 m (12,060 ft) above sea level.

The map is centred on Java. Towns and cities on the map include Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung, Semarang, Cilacap, Bogor, Bandar Lampung and Malang.

Greens show lower elevations; tan and brown show higher land, with pale tones toward the highest terrain. Shadows emphasize the slopes, and vertical relief is exaggerated so landforms are easier to read. Dashed lines show country borders.

The relief uses Terrain Tiles (SRTM, GMTED2010 and ETOPO1 elevation data). Rivers, lakes, borders come from Natural Earth, and the figures on this page from Wikidata. These are small-scale educational maps, not navigation charts.
