How to read this map
The Rangitīkei River is about 240 km (149 mi) long and drains a basin of about 3,950 km² (1,520 sq mi). It rises at the Kaimanawa Mountains and flows into the Tasman Sea. Tributaries include Mangawharariki River, Moawhango River, Whakaurekou River, Mangamaire River, Mangatera River and Hautapu River.
The highlighted blue line is the course of the Rangitīkei River as mapped by Natural Earth. Towns and cities on the map include Palmerston North, Hastings, Napier, Whanganui, Taupō, Levin and Hāwera.
Greens show lower elevations; tan and brown show higher land, with pale tones toward the highest terrain. Shadows emphasize the slopes, and vertical relief is exaggerated so landforms are easier to read. Dashed lines show country borders.
The relief uses Terrain Tiles (SRTM, GMTED2010 and ETOPO1 elevation data). Rivers, lakes, borders and the course of the Rangitīkei River come from Natural Earth, and the figures on this page from Wikidata. Natural Earth draws features at a small scale, so the line is a guide to where the Rangitīkei River is, not a surveyed boundary.
