How to read this map

The Elbe River is about 1,090 km (680 mi) long and drains a basin of about 148,000 km² (57,200 sq mi). Its average discharge is about 711 m³/s (25,100 cu ft/s). It rises at the Giant Mountains and flows into the North Sea. It flows through or along the Czech Republic and Germany. Tributaries include Gottleuba, Müglitz, Weißeritz, Jahna, Döllnitz, Mulde, Saale and Ohre.

The highlighted blue line is the course of the Elbe River as mapped by Natural Earth. Towns and cities on the map include Berlin, Frankfurt, Mannheim, Hamburg, Prague, Nuremberg, Bremen and Hanover. Labeled countries: Germany and Czech Republic.

Greens show lower elevations; tan and brown show higher land, with pale tones toward the highest terrain. Shadows emphasize the slopes, and vertical relief is exaggerated so landforms are easier to read. Dashed lines show country borders, and fine dashed lines show state or province borders.

The relief uses Terrain Tiles (SRTM, GMTED2010 and ETOPO1 elevation data). Rivers, lakes, borders and the course of the Elbe River come from Natural Earth, and the figures on this page from Wikidata. Natural Earth draws features at a small scale, so the line is a guide to where the Elbe River is, not a surveyed boundary.
