Tigris and Euphrates Rivers Map
The Tigris and the Euphrates are the two great rivers of Mesopotamia. This map shows their courses on shaded relief, with their river network, lakes, borders and major cities.

How to read this map
The Tigris is about 1,850 km (1,150 mi) long and drains about 375,000 km² (145,000 sq mi). The Euphrates is about 2,800 km (1,740 mi) long and drains about 673,000 km² (260,000 sq mi). Both rise in the mountains of eastern Turkey and meet in southern Iraq, where they form the Shatt al-Arab, which flows into the Persian Gulf.
The highlighted blue line is the course of the two rivers as mapped by Natural Earth. Towns and cities on the map include Baghdad, Tabriz, Mosul, Ahwaz, Duhok, Erbil, Basra and Kermanshah. Labeled countries: Iraq.
Greens show lower elevations; tan and brown show higher land, with pale tones toward the highest terrain. Shadows emphasize the slopes, and vertical relief is exaggerated so landforms are easier to read. Dashed lines show country borders.
The relief uses Terrain Tiles (SRTM, GMTED2010 and ETOPO1 elevation data). Rivers, lakes, borders and the course of the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers come from Natural Earth, and the figures on this page from Wikidata. Natural Earth draws features at a small scale, so the line is a guide to where the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers is, not a surveyed boundary.
