How to read this map

The Kattegat covers about 25,500 km² (9,840 sq mi) and reaches a maximum depth of about 109 m (358 ft). Countries with a coast on the Kattegat: Sweden and Denmark.

The blue outline marks the Kattegat as mapped by Natural Earth. Towns and cities on the map include Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Malmö, Aarhus, Odense, Aalborg, Flensburg and Helsingborg.

Greens show lower elevations; tan and brown show higher land, with pale tones toward the highest terrain. Shadows emphasize the slopes, and vertical relief is exaggerated so landforms are easier to read. Dashed lines show country borders, and fine dashed lines show state or province borders.

The relief uses Terrain Tiles (SRTM, GMTED2010 and ETOPO1 elevation data). Rivers, lakes, borders and the outline of the Kattegat come from Natural Earth, and the figures on this page from Wikidata. Natural Earth draws features at a small scale, so the outline is a guide to where the Kattegat is, not a surveyed boundary.
