How to read this map

The North Sea covers about 570,000 km² (220,000 sq mi) and reaches a maximum depth of about 700 m (2,297 ft). Countries with a coast on the North Sea: Norway, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France and the United Kingdom.

The blue outline marks the North Sea as mapped by Natural Earth. Towns and cities on the map include Paris, London, Berlin, Frankfurt, Mannheim, Birmingham, Manchester and Hamburg. Labeled countries: Norway, Germany, United Kingdom and Ireland.

Greens show lower elevations; tan and brown show higher land, with pale tones toward the highest terrain. Shadows emphasize the slopes, and vertical relief is exaggerated so landforms are easier to read. Dashed lines show country borders, and fine dashed lines show state or province borders.

The relief uses Terrain Tiles (SRTM, GMTED2010 and ETOPO1 elevation data). Rivers, lakes, borders and the outline of the North Sea come from Natural Earth, and the figures on this page from Wikidata. Natural Earth draws features at a small scale, so the outline is a guide to where the North Sea is, not a surveyed boundary.
