How to read this map

The Wadden Sea covers about 10,000 km² (3,860 sq mi). Countries with a coast on the Wadden Sea: the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark.

The blue outline marks the Wadden Sea as mapped by Natural Earth. Towns and cities on the map include The Hague, Amsterdam, Utrecht, Haarlem, Groningen, Leeuwarden, Zwolle and Assen.

Greens show lower elevations; tan and brown show higher land, with pale tones toward the highest terrain. Shadows emphasize the slopes, and vertical relief is exaggerated so landforms are easier to read. Dashed lines show country borders, and fine dashed lines show state or province borders.

The relief uses Terrain Tiles (SRTM, GMTED2010 and ETOPO1 elevation data). Rivers, lakes, borders and the outline of the Wadden Sea come from Natural Earth, and the figures on this page from Wikidata. Natural Earth draws features at a small scale, so the outline is a guide to where the Wadden Sea is, not a surveyed boundary.
