How to read this map
The Congo Basin is about 1,000,000 km² (386,000 sq mi) in area. It extends across Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Malawi, the Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda and Zambia.
The dashed outline marks the Congo Basin as mapped by Natural Earth. Towns and cities on the map include Kinshasa, Luanda, Kano, Douala, Yaoundé, Kaduna, Kampala and Lubumbashi. Labeled countries: Democratic Republic of the Congo, Angola, Tanzania, Nigeria, Zambia, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Cameroon, Republic of the Congo and Gabon.
Greens show lower elevations; tan and brown show higher land, with pale tones toward the highest terrain. Shadows emphasize the slopes, and vertical relief is exaggerated so landforms are easier to read. Dashed lines show country borders.
The relief uses Terrain Tiles (SRTM, GMTED2010 and ETOPO1 elevation data). Rivers, lakes, borders and the outline of the Congo Basin come from Natural Earth, and the figures on this page from Wikidata. Natural Earth draws features at a small scale, so the outline is a guide to where the Congo Basin is, not a surveyed boundary.
